Owl And Raven

Owl and Raven is an Eskimo legend about a close friendship between an owl and a raven. “One day Raven made a new dress, dappled black and white, for Owl. Owl, in return, made for Raven a pair of whalebone boots and then began to make for her a white dress. When Owl wanted to fit the dress, Raven hopped about and would not sit still. Owl became very angry and said: ‘If I fly over you with a blubber lamp, don’t jump.’ Raven continued to hop about. At last Owl became even angrier and emptied the blubber lamp over the new white dress. Raven cried, ‘Qaq! Qaq!’ Ever since that day Raven has been black all over.” |Quoted from Myths and Legends of the Pacific Northwest, Katherine Berry Judson, Chicago, A.C. McClurg & Co., 1910|.My husband’s and my children’s last name is Eule (German for owl). The story of the friendship between the owl and the raven always reminds me of my son and his little friend in India. The first neighborhood we lived in was quite underdeveloped. Poor families and their children lived in shanties and worked on construction sites close to our house. A little boy came day after day. He came with an old rubber tire and a wooden stick | top left |to play with Maximilian | top right |. They had a wonderful time together.During that time we lived in Chennai, the former Madras. We had a severe heat wave in 2015 that killed 2,500 people in only a few months. When you experience life in India, your approach to a lot of things in life changes dramatically.Living in Germany I never thought about the tre-mendous relevance of clean water and the dramatic truth behind the sentence One glass of water can illuminate the world| top right |. Thinking of a glass of water I have to think about Selters| bottom left |. Selters is a German brand of natural mineral water from the area of Selters in the Taunus Mountains of Hesse. The water has been famous as a natural soda water since the Bronze Age. The word Selters has meanwhile become synonymous for all kinds and brands of mineral water, primarily in northeastern Germany. Pursuing the thought of water, the Berlin music club Watergate came to my mind. The Watergate is a nightclub close to the Oberbaumbrücke| top left |. It is famous for its DJs and the electronic house music scene. The architecture of Oberbaumbrücke is spectacular, especially in the evening sun. The Watergate is a club where I celebrated a lot of parties with my husband Benjamin | owl, bottom left |. ...therefore I will stop here! ❖
